Project Details: In 2009 I founded and chaired the Designers Society at the University of Plymouth. It’s main aim was to educate students about the creative world after finishing their course and provide networking opportunities. This included organising a range of lectures from speakers across the creative industry such as Harry Pearce from Pentagram to Si Scott the illustrator. We also ran educational workshops from GF Smith and portfolio review days. As Chairperson I directed a committee of 15 people, organised events, sponsorships, art directed promotional material and oversaw the everyday secretarial running of the society. We ran a competition alongside Plymouth City Council to revitalise part of Plymouth and organised several exhibitions of student work. Through initiating partnerships with design organisations such as D&AD, Designed in Devon and Design Week a reputation was established raising interest and visitors from across the South West. Under my leadership the society won several awards: 'Society Event of the Year' (when Harry Pearce came to visit and we held an exhibition of student work) and 'New Society of the Year'. I also won a 'Contribution to Societies' award. For more information and up to date information on what the society is currently up to please visit: www.designers-society.co.uk
